‘‘NO SUCCESS WITHOUT A PROBLEM’’
Friends, in our lives, it is common to
have problems. Some are
solved, some remain, but the main thing is to have your goal
fixed. We need to concentrate on that goal. Reaching a goal is a success, but
there is no success without problems. If a problem is difficult to solve, we
must never lose our faith, losing our faith is a bigger problem than the
difficulty of the problem to solve. Losing faith means losing interest, losing
interest means losing concentration and losing concentration means getting
distracted from the track of our goal. Every problem has a solution. Friends,
we all know ‘Chanakya’, the great guru of Chandragupta Maurya. An incident of his life is given here for
your perusal-
Chanakya, who was born in the 4th century
BC, was an Indian teacher, philosopher, economist and a jurist. He was a royal
advisor, too. He is also identified as Kautilya or Vishnugupta. He was one of
the greatest teachers in India. He was an acharya
(teacher) in the famous University of Takshashila in Patliputra (today’s Patna)
in the Gandhar region from where he too had studied. Being a Brahmin, he
authored the ancient political treatise. He is also considered the pioneer of
the field of politics in India.
Once, Chanakya was walking through the streets of Takshashila for some
purpose when he was remembered by the Head of the University. They sent two of their shisyas (students) to
call Chanakya. The students went searching for Chanakya when suddenly they
caught sight of their guru. Chanakya was not aware of the students; he was lost in his deep thoughts when
all of a sudden a thorn pierced into his foot. Chanakya took out the thorn and
discovered a thorny plant on the ground. He looked around and found a milk
stall nearby. He bought a glass of buttermilk from the stall, but what he did
was strange, instead of drinking it, he poured it upon the thorny plant! The students were watching this all. It was really strange! Then Chanakya started walking again, when the two students
approached him. ‘‘Pranam, acharya.’’, (Regards, master) they said. ‘‘Yashyasvibhava’’ (be
successful children), Chanakya replied. Then the students exclaimed, ‘’In front
of us you suffered the thorn, we felt very bad.’’ Then Chanakya replied,
‘’Important is this, what I did after it.’’ The students replied, ‘’Yes,
acharya, the thorn hurt you, but…you….. Why did you do so?’’ ‘‘The pain I
suffered mustn’t be suffered by anyone else, so I thought to destroy the cause
of the pain itself.’’ ‘‘Pouring a glass of buttermilk….how acharya?’’, the
students asked. ‘‘Pouring a glass of buttermilk on the plant is invitation to
the ants and insects on the plant, which will destroy the plant fully. Getting
rid of problems is not sufficient. Brave is he who once faces a problem then finds
relief after solving it’’, replied Chanakya. The both students were astonished
by the knowledge and the deeds of their acharya; they took the blessings of him
from the bottom of their heart. Then Chanakya asked, ‘‘did you want to speak
something to me?’’. ‘‘Yes acharya, the main gurudev has remembered you. He is
waiting for you.’’ And three of them headed towards the University.
So friends, remember, ‘Getting rid of Problems is not sufficient,
brave is he who once faces a problem then finds relief after solving it.’
